From previous discussions, I can only assume that a majority of you use Firefox, but let's start a discussion here. Please, no flaming, this is just a discussion, and people's opinions....kinda
OK, so, I am going to start off by saying, I think internet Explorer sucks! One of the reasons is that in the new IE 7, the layout is COMPLETELY different?! I swear, I still can't find certain things in under a 30 secs, which is terrible! And what's with their new Bookmark System?! You must have an account with them to save bookmarks. You can't just save them to your browser anymore. Is that dumb or what? With Firefox, you can add Bookmarks with ease, and even set some to show directly under the address bar.
EDIT:
Sorry for the confusion, you can add Bookmarks, but you must sign in to use Favorites. This confused me until just recently lol.
Then there's speed. It's proven (this is fact) that Firefox is faster. If it's not on your computer, you probably have dial-up. Firefox was Not designed for dial-up, so if you have it, I advise you research on how to fix that. You can also optimize it for faster speeds.
That leads me to options. You can do so much more with FireFox, and the add-ons are unlimited! Go to their site and there is an add-on for almost everything. There's a music player, ftp program, code validator, and much more! Plus, I love Firefox's spell check :) I've used it probably fie times in just this post lol.
And what's up with the IE tabs? They are plain UGLY! Firefox, although it is a huge RAM hogger with too many tabs, is much nicer. You can also customize the tabs to have red X's on all of them or just the current one :) That's cool.
There are so many other things that makes FireFox so much better, but let's hear what you guys have to say. Just don't flame me, flame the browsers :D
The only good thing about IE is that there are those few things which only work in it. In those rare cases, I'll use IE :D
The only problem that I have with IE is that it blatantly ignores W3 standards. All other browsers try and conform to the standard, to make our job as programmers and web developers infinitely easier.
IE doesn't need to conform to any standard and they know it. They still have the vast majority of the market, and most of their users could care less about how it renders pages, as long as their facebook profile loads.
If I didn't have to play around with my code to make it cross-browser, I might actually enjoy working on online projects.
I agree fully with this entire post, I believe IE sucks! However the average computer user doesn't even know what a "firefox" is and it get's annoying trying to convince school teachers to install it on all the school computers. (acutally got it onto all the ones at my technical school )
Also I cannot stand that IE ignores the web standards, I had so many problems with my site just beacuse of that! It took me about 2 days just to make it completely cross-browser (using PHP instead of CSS tricks).
That's just the thing. You shouldn't have to write little tricks like that just to make it work in the most common browser. I've seen so many people almost have to write 2 versions of their CSS styles just to become cross-platform. It's crazy. It's why I'm so turned off by web development.
Yes, I totally agree with the two main points you guys mentioned. IE generally ignores standards, and it's annoying how people aren't familiar with it. NOBODY knows what it is, and I hate that!
I have found some little good things about it though. One was, it caught an error in my div codes that FF didn't catch (which was a weird mistake, it's usually reversed?!), and some stuff works in IE that won't function in FF. of course, that's annoying, because people will use IE only stuff and expect it to work for everyone, when there's an alternative in most cases. There are some IE only tricks, but some coders will use IE only codes that have an all browser alternative. THAT gets me really mad!
The only good thing about IE is that there are those few things which only work in it. In those rare cases, I'll use IE :D
I use the IE Switcher pluggin for firefox, so i can render pages using IE engine but still stay inside firefox
I also do not like the new IE layout, i have NO IDEA where anything is and i just can not remember where anything is! It sucks! IE6 was usable, IE7 is just so bad!
IE also does not stick to standards and do not implement many actions such as cs hover events etc on anything other than links!
I havent used IE properly for like 4 years or so!
Oh and have you guys tried Flock? It's a browser based on FireFox but for social networking or something.
I.E does suck...but i use it :/ i do not really know why.
Well i do not have any certain problem//but i will certently swich to firefox due to the acid2 thing and because most programers recomend it ;p
A lot of my friends, who are 'code-challenged' use and prefer FireFox. It's overall better. I even successfully got my Mom to switch XD Still working on my dad... The funny thing is, I just introduced it to her, and she all of a sudden started using it as her default browser? She even thought IE was better at first. She's just smart is all :)
Never tried Flock though, but i did hear about it a year ago. I'll go take a look at it later, sounds interesting. I just never cared to look because some random guy told me about it and I forgot it even existed later lol.
love firefox, but you know guys, firefox start's to lag with time, once it gets filled and everything.
also i would like to add something positive to ie.
i would love it firefox fould copy the way ie works with favourites, becasue those bookmarks, suck when moving from computer to computer.
