Installed the new v2 template to the development version today. It's also been coded using DIVs. The result is a faster loading page, and a page that loads progressively quite nicely as well. Another thing to note is that 99% of the all links on the site are done using correct markup. No longer is javascripts "onclick" even used. I did this because i got annoyed about the fact that holding Ctrl and then clicking the link would not only open the page in a new tab, but would also load the page in the current one as well! Instead of leaving the current one alone. I've also checked the design on IE7, FireFox 2, and Opera (8 i think). Check it out:
I will be working on CP most sundays from now on.
So the v2 release should not be to far away.
Kind regards,
Scott
P.S. Notice a few little extras such as the "quote of the day" in the footer. Which shows a single quote each day from a selection of about 500 quotes. 99% are to do with programming obviously... there's a few little things like that around the site...
I think the footer could be a bit darker* and I don't know about having that width delection in the profile, it could either be automatic (check resolution) or have an option somewhere in profile settings, but maybe not footer. If in footer, have it minimizable/expandable (such as you can do with the categories for the forum with the +/- at the right top corner)
But looks great otherwise! ;)
(BTW, at first I was also against the "pukish green background", but I think it looks kinda nice and proffesional when I look at it now and I would personally keep it)
Glad no one has said anything about the icons, must mean there ok... same with the new logo
That green i am thinking about changing to beige... which is actually what it was supposed to be in the first place but it came out as green somehow
The footer i think i'm leaving as is... maybe make the middle bit a bit darker, but then the mouse over effects on the links aren't so nice looking when the darker blue is shown on the hover event.
Overall i think the feedback has been good
The final test is to see what happens with my opinion of the design when i start browsing the site (while working on v2) with the new design. If i've got it right... and it's not to vibrant etc then after a week of working on it... i should still like the design, otherwise, it may start to annoy and distract me. If it's to bland, then i will keep getting lost... i've found these problems with my other designs. So we shall see, but this one looks very promising i think.
