Yesterday i spent about 12 hours on CP! For those web designers out there who code in HTML... you will now be pleased to know that the template is DIV based... no longer using tables :-P CP also has a new logo, and new layout. Though there are many similarities to this template in regards to positioning of things (such as the top nav bar is still in the same place... it's just solid black now instead with a slight gradient overlay to it). There's been a few other tweaks such as the account home page designs have changed... such as for those who saw the last screenshots there was a guy called "tim" on there :-P i killed him, and now it's a small 250px high box with a small getting started document in it.
Anyway, next week i'm coding up the skills section. So you guys can nest unlimited skills inside 5 groups: IDEs, Languages, Interests, Software, Operating Systems.
The difference over this new skills system is that you can add ANY skills you like to those 5 groups, as many as you like (no longer a limit of 10), and you can add sub skills such as Operating Systems::Debian::Ubuntu... or lets say Interests::Web Development::Design::Vectors (meaning you can create vector based web designs). Each skills you can also add a description to, select from 5 star ratings for things like competency using that skill, when you started using the language and when you finished... or if your still using it... you can select "current" to indicate it's your current skill such as PHP.
That should be easy to get done in a day since most of the work is already done in classes i used for previous sections of the site
Then after that... i have to code up the feed system... again... a days work... then after that decide which applications to add such as a source codes, tutorials, blogs, etc... if you say another 7 days work for that... then give another day for cleaning stuff up like adding missed pages etc... then CP v2 is ready to be released in a total of 10 days... if i do 1 day a week on CP minimum... that means CP v2 can be done in at least 10 weeks from now.
Done a load of paper work for CP today... Articles wont be in the next release... but Source Codes & Blogs will.
I've planned out all the source codes section which will have the following features:
Add operating systems it's compatible with (as many as you want)
Add languages & packages used (as many as you want)
Add categories (as many as you want)
Add licenses (as many as you want such as GNU, MIT or you own license)
Upload multiple versions for a source code without having to delete the old ones... when you view a version you can easily switch between older and newer versions
Add a screenshot
Add a Usage Example (like if it's a class, show how it can be used)
Upload the source code via a ZIP file
Receive reviews & ratings
Receive comments
The good news is... most of that is already done... i just have to modify the categories class i coded a while back so it can support a few more things... then i should be able to get all that coded in a few weekends
I don't know what you guys think... but eventually i want to update the source codes so they are more like projects... where each one can support a support forum, suggested features, etc.
Wont be any more progress updates until next weekend.
Just had an idea - I could really use a place to post source codes (you've got that!) but for the app to create short URL's to the source code. I can't be bothered to go to other sites to shorten a URL - so if you had a short URL version automatically that'd be ace! Could utilise that at work quite a bit...
Dude im so happy to see that CP is still under development. I was getting worried for a bit. Cant wait to see everything you have in store for us. V2 might just push me to throw a lil cash your way .
Haha, unfortunately there was a small part of the design to do with the drop shadow that i could not seem to replicate using tables and making sure you guys could change the header background colour... so i had to resort to divs which made it possible thanks to the "layering" way in which divs work... but... then i couldn't design up the footer how i wanted because the content area of the site is no longer "inline" like tables are and i couldn't break out of the current absolute... anyway, enough about that :-P i'll get another programmer to sort that out in the future because i can't be spending more time on it when it looks perfectly ok
Kind regards,
Scott
P.S. All the content areas of the site are still table based more reliable i find. It's just the site template that is now div based.
