I have seen the word a myriad of times, I have looked for it, but it seems that it is not really used anymore, but people still learn it a lot. Unless I am mistaken, is it really used? I want to learn it too, but I want to see when I should learn it based in whether it is widely used or not :).
I learned enough perl to do a game of hangman in it... personally... perls too messy for my liking. Though it will come in handy for shell scripting, reading algorithms in perl, and if i ever need to use a perl library from cpan... but it's only widely used now days for legacy reasons... many new apps etc are being done in other languages like PHP, C#, .Net, Python, etc.
Yeah i was going to say, if you wanted to learn something like this, go for python, In my opinion that is still being used. More than perl anyway's. And it is still being used to create great programs.
If i'm right in saying, that blender 3D was / uses python!
