I came across this article today on TechReplic. It is a very good article in my opinion.
If you have used Vista or have just tested it out, you may have noticed how much memory it is actually using when you are just using a couple programs and nothing huge like running a game.
Well, there is a reason for Vista using up all of your memory for doing simple things, and it's called SuperFetch. It's actually a quite ingenius technology Microsoft has integrated into Vista alongside ReadyBoost.
Maybe some of you guys who fall knee down to XP will figure out that Vista has a lot of performance enhancements that XP just doesn't come to part with
Remember, Vista took 5 years (?? I think that's right) to come out with, obviously Microsoft was doing a lot with it, besides just the Kernel upgrade.
well i've noticed that (nero works 100x better in vista), but you know what i do to decrease all the memory usage, i start up task manager, and kill all useless processes, such as sync ceneter, or microsoft grove, and then my memory usage drops to 32%. don't kill system processess though. and wista is a lot better than xp, i agree, except for SP1
thanks lzzmo for the site, very interesting database for IT stuff. anyways i've attached a pdf format of the article, and i realize that vista isn't really a memory hog at all, nice, very nice, microsoft is then've done a great job, except for a SP1 thinnie
