New To Do Lists Application |

Hi ya guys,
Simply update - Added a new application called "To Do Lists". The application uses a lot of AJAX and other JS magic such as drag and drop to re-order lists, etc. Using it is more like the way you would use an application that a normal website! It's quite fun!
To activate it on your account, go to your "Account Home Page". Click "Add New Application" under the "Content Management" heading, and then click "Activate" on the to do list application. The page will reload and you will see a new "To Do List" application ready for you to use ;-)

Resizable & Auto Size Textareas |

Hi ya,
First of all, i've done a few fixes with the online now image that goes over the bottom of avatars. Haven't yet fixed the image to still work on center aligned avatars, but will fix that too later on though.
Auto Resizing Textareas
This is a strange one. If you have JavaScript enabled all textareas around coder profile will auto adjust there height to fit their initial contents (removing the scroll bar in the process) and adding enough space for 1 extra blank line to just make it look nicer.
Resizable Textareas
Again if JavaScript is enabled most (currently 100%, but may be less in the future) textareas have a bar along the bottom of them. This allows you to resize the textarea by just holding your mouse down on the bar, and dragging it to the new height that you want the textarea to be!
I think the next cool JS trick i will be adding at some point is a rich text editor replacement to the BBCode message pad. So keep your eyes open for that update ;-)
Kind regards,
Scott

Profile Traffic Reports |

Hi ya guys,
Sunday i was annoyed. I was developing coder cards for about 6 hours to then decide they looked rubbish and removed them! I then added custom user colours such as administrators get their username in green, VIPs in orange, regular users in the default link colour, etc. Again that was rubbish (once i had finished it) so i deleted that feature as well! Not going very well!
Profile Traffic Reports
But, i wanted to get something completed that i could upload. So i converted the old affiliates tracking code that i used in my admin panel for this site, to a new system that you coders can use! So you are now able to track all unique hits, and all impressions made on your profile on a daily or monthly basis! This also excludes search engines and most bots, and will not include your own hits to your profile if you are logged in when viewing your profile. The link to these reports is on your account home page under "profile tools".
Avatars - Online
When ever someone is online, there avatar gets a small water mark (sort of) on their avatar indicating they are online at this very moment.
Unique Profile Hits
The profile hits counter is now a unique hits counter and no longer an impressions counter. To be fair on those who have been on coder profile for some time i divided your profile impressions by 10 to give you your unique impressions. This is so i did not have to set your profile hits to 0 when converting the profiles across.
Profile Engine
The profiles have now been installed on to a mini coder profile framework - meaning they are generally easier to code for myself :-) resulting in more updates and more powerful profiles ;-)
Home Page
The home page has been updated and no longer shows affiliates, but instead shows the latest development blog posts.
Affiliates
Have been totally removed. The space they occupied could be better utilized and to put it bluntly, the affiliates were bringing pretty much 0 traffic to coder profile.
That’s all for today. More updates to come soon.
Kind regards,
Scott

Applications Architecture |

Hi ya guys,
The whole of today (about 14 hours of today anyway) i have spend coding a new system (as always lol). The old sections on your account home page have now been converted to an "application" system. By that i mean you are now in total control of which applications you decide to activate, and then you can even set which applications are shown on your profile! This has made the old "Online Pages" page obsolete and therefore it has been deleted.
For those very few of you that set up some custom pages, i'm sorry but i had to delete the ability to create custom pages. The architecture of them was just to bespoke to try and formalize them in to the same format as the other applications. Also, i was pretty much the only person using the custom pages! lol.
While adding the new applications, i had to add two new applications, "Referrals" and "Discussion Forum". So you can now select those from the application lists as well.
You will notice that even if you deactivate the applications, you can in fact still use a select few of them such as "referrals" by selecting them on the right hand panel on your account home page.
I have also added the new "User Groups" network. Oh yeah, the new terminology! Basically here it is:
Applications - What are shown in the boxes on your account home page and provide your account with added functionality.
Networks - These are the public versions of applications and are located in the very top navigation panel of this site.
That’s all for now... the next update will be the integration of the applications and notification system and a few design tweaks on the profiles navigation panel.
Kind regards,
Scott

Just a quick update (v1.42.03). Where ever there was the ability to hide / show an area on a page with a special effect. Clicking the link multiple times would mess up the display. Thats now been fixed and clicking multiple times before the effect has finished will no longer mess anything up.

Hi ya guys,
Fixed 2 bugs, 1 still remaining.
1. Fixed the "operation aborted" error that appeared where ever there was a BBCode Message Pad - Only affected Internet Explorer users.
2. The "delete group" link has been removed from your "Contacts" page.
The Scrolling for the Quick Reply button in the forums when using Opera v9.5 scrolls to the top of the screen instead of the bottom. This i have not yet been able to fix. I will wait a while to see if opera fix the problem since it works for previous versions. If not, i will try and come up with a workaround.
Even if it is simply a:
If browse == opera v9.5 then
//don't scroll
else
//do scroll

First of all... here is a list of the updates:
General Updates
- Fixed the name of a URL in notifications regarding new ratings
- Added links from your account homepages source code & article pages that point to it on your profile. Basically making sharing your source codes etc much easier
- The forums quick reply button now does some "cool" browser stuff... go check out :-P
- Date of Birth now produces the correct age nearer a members birthday (people were having their birthdays a few days early! lol)
- Account Reminders now contain a direct link to CP (thanks to Napalm for the suggestion)
- Personal Message setting "Only allow My Contacts to PM me" has now changed to "Only allow My Friends to PM me".
- When browsing coders you can filter them by a specific letter
- Thumbnail caching has changed from using the database to keep track of file names etc, to using only the file system.
- All thumbnails now show larger images using a much cooler effect without opening a new window (or tab) each time.
- All the sites AJAX has been re-written, uses the prototype framework, and added little loading images.
- Notification Summaries now have a default of 3 days.
- Notification Summaries now have the delay reset when you login. So they are now sent X days since you last logged in to CP. This helps prevent annoying you with Notification Summaries when you generally check the site daily.
- You can now turn off your Notification Summaries via the notification settings page instead of your account settings page.
- Minimum length of 1,000 characters has been set on Coding Articles.
- Speed improvements overall have been made such as the .js files are now gzipped etc and YSlow now rates the speed of the front end of CP as a B :-) which is very acceptable.
- Your profiles have a new "more actions" link and a few design touch ups.
New - User Groups
- Create private and public user groups
- Add who ever you like to private user groups and they don't even know they are in the group!
- Create and join others Public user groups such as "Top PHP Coders", or "AI Enthusiasts"
- When creating public groups, you can set different entry settings. Maybe you want to manually accept members in to the group after checking them out, or maybe you don't care who joins the group? The choice is yours.
- When creating a public group, your the leader. This means you have control to ban and remove members from the group. You can't add members though, they have to join via their own free will (and they can leave when ever they want as well).
- Moderate comments left in a user group. Only members accepted in to the user group can leave and view comments made by the group. So have your own little group discussions going on!
- Leave notes beside members in your private groups to remind you who they are, or why you added them to that group.
- And so on...
Revamp - Contacts
- Completly re-written
- Not much is new with the contacts system that the old one, just more efficient and can be embedded in to other sections much easier than before
Revamp - Friends
- You can temporarily leave a friendship, and join again later on without requiring to revalidate the handshake process
- Send invitations with personalized notes
- Ban a member from your friends list
- Remove members from your friends list, meaning they must send you another invite.
- Keep track of friends you have banned etc
New - Fans
- Obtain fans via your profile.
- Ability to see who your fans are.
- See what coders you are a fan of.
- The basics for the fan system are here... but it will be expanded on a LOT in the near future.
Think thats everything... i'm sure i've forgotten a few things... but you like surprises right? ;-)
To find out what is coming next, checkout the discussion forums.
Kind regards,
Scott

v1.41 - Notifications Rewrite |

Hi ya guys,
A lot of internal work this time. I've added a new "registry" architecture behind this site which basically allows me to bolt on systems such as rating, commenting, notifications, etc to another section such as articles, source codes, all within a matter of MINUTES. So development time for me will be much more productive now.
Search engines and actual people hits have been separated for me to view. I am now able to tell the different and track the progress of search engines through this site also giving me much more accurate stats than before in regards to page hits and alike. As an added bonus, performance of the site is also recorded so i can see any dangerous pages taking a while to load before they actually become a problem.
The notification section has had a complete re-write! To put it simply, it's near perfect now :-) You get much more informative emails, you can browse your notifications at your leasure, you can customize exactly what and how you get notified for on a per section basis, and you can get notified on so much more than you could before. The new system also performs much more efficiently than the previous system in regards to load time.
The ratings system has also been converted to use the registry, and you will all be able to vote again on articles and source codes. I couldn't be bothered to transfer all the existing votes across to the new system. It's not what i would call vital to do.
Anyway, the next update will be a category related update :-) a very nice update as well ;-)
Kind regards,
Scott

Hi ya guys,
Just a few minor updates.
1. Added the heading tags (h1, h2, h3) to the BBCode Manual
2. Added shortcuts for placing h1, h2, h3 tags around text. Ctrl + 1/2/3 (depending on the heading you want).
3. For some reason the tab key stopped working and was inserting a space in the BBCode message pad. Maybe browser updates or something. What ever it was, its now fixed.
Thats it for minor updates now. The next update will be a new section :-D

Table of Contents + Fonts |

Hi ya guys,
Done a few tweaks and added some more functionality today.
1. Where ever source code is shown the font Verdana is now used instead of Arial since it properly shows [ and ] for example, without making it look like a rectangle!
2. Code shown via the BBCode code tags has the ability to transform to a textbox when you click the code. This allows you to copy the source code and preserve the formating. Click restore at the top will restore it back to its line numbered edition.
3. BBCode now supports table of contents generation! Cool eh. Its really simple as well. Using 3 tags: [h1] for a level 1 heading, [h2] for a level 2 heading, [h3] for a... you guessed it... a level 3 heading. For example this:
---------
[h1]Books[/h1]
fsdfd fdsf dasf a s
[h2]Programming[/h2]
fdfdsafdsfsd
[h3]Teach Yourself C++[/h3]
ffdsdfdsfd saafdsfsdf df dsaf
[h3]Teach Yourself Visual Basic[/h3]
fdffsda dsafdsfff sdsdafsd asdsd
[h3]Teach Yourself PHP[/h3]
fd fasdfds fsdaf asd
---------
Would produce a table of contents automatically for you! Like this:
Books
--- Programming
------ Teach Yourself C++
------ Teach Yourself Visual Basic
------ Teach Yourself PHP
Comes in very useful for large forum posts, when posting articles, and in the future it will be used in a lot more places!
Oh and the Table of Contents will ONLY be generated when 4 or more heading tags have been used.
Kind regards,
Scott

Sundays update! |

Hi ya guys,
First of all i would just like to say that my Coder Profile development day has now changed from Saturdays to Sundays. So the larger updates will likely happen on Sundays now.
Just managed to get some CP time in today since had to help clean the house, had someone to value the new windows for the house, and then had to go up town to get a new hoover, then had roast dinner and had to wash up... by the time i had finished it was already 4pm!
But anyway, i have still managed to get the following done :-D
1. Announcements on your profiles are now global - they show on every page
2. Announcements can not be enabled or disabled in your profile settings and there is not a dedicated announcements page anymore. Instead you can only show announcements globally to make use of the system.
3. There is no longer a comments page on your profiles. Instead 10 comments (instead of the previous 3) are now shown at the bottom of your profile overview page.
4. Comments have had there design tweaked a little.
5. Comments can not be disabled on your profiles anymore since there is no longer a dedicated page for comments. This feature will come back when i add the privacy settings for your profiles.
6. The internal system for comments has changed. Instead of 6 individual tables to store your comments... there is now 1 - reducing page queries and making the whole system much easier to code :-)
7. Profiles right panels have been split in to 3 sections: main, about me, more sections.
8. Your account home pages have been adjusted a little and the right panels now have headings.
9. New coder profile logo! Hope you guys like it.... (press Ctrl + F5 if you can not see it, this will force your browser to reload the whole page and all cached images again etc).
10. The broken image on your profiles navigation panel that showed in Internet Explorer has been fixed.
More to come during next week :-)
Kind regards,
Scott
