Quick Questions

How did you get interested in coding?
Started getting books from the library when I was 6 before I had a computer and writing programs on paper. Never had the chance to test them until I was 7 when I had my first computer - a BBC model "B" Micro. Since them I've gone through (no order) the Commodore 64, Spectrum 48K with the rubber keys, Oric Atmos, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and now my custom-built PC I made myself.

How did you learn how to write code?
Trial and error on my own although I did attend evening courses at the local college when I was 13 learning City & Guilds 424 and 726 using Borland Turbo Pascal. When it came to the Amiga when my programming changed to coding (learning 680x0 assembler and Amiga E) things went stronger and stronger as I joined the demo scene.

How long have you been coding for?
As it was 7 with a computer and I'm 35 now that's 28 years. If you include the pen & paper notes it's 29 :P

What is your favorite coding language and why?
I've learnt so many it's difficult to choose a favourite as it depends on the task involved. For example, a quick program to convert some data files I definitely wouldn't choose assembler. They're all favourites for their own reasons just lke I loved E because you could switch between E and assembler without compiler directives.

What is your least favorite language and why?
Anything I don't know because if I started coding it I'd have to learn sooo much. Now you've got modern architecture to learn. Back years ago you only had a small part to learn and could keep learning the language as it developed. I'm sort of teaching myself C++ and finding it a bitch. So much has changed since BCPL.

What are your favorite coding books?
Anything with graphical screenshots and simple explanations. Too easy to get lost behind jargon.

What do you use your coding languages for?
Personal applications I need which is why it's taking me so long to learn C++.

How many hours a week on average do you spend coding?
Nowhere near as much as I used to but still far too much.
